The artist
A lifelong connection to Ukraine.
Born in Lviv, Ukraine, in January 1942, Orest Poliszczuk creates fine art and sculpture inspired by his beloved homeland.
Before the complete Communist takeover of Ukraine in 1944, Orest and his family escaped to Germany, where they lived in displaced persons camps for Eastern European refugees. In 1949, the family emigrated to the United States and settled in Baltimore, Maryland.
Orest earned his B.A. in 1966 and his MFA, with a concentration in sculpture, in 1968 from the University of Maryland. He began teaching at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, in 1969 and retired 43 years later as Professor Emeritus.
Throughout his career as an educator, he exhibited extensively in the United States and Canada, in both group and solo shows. Now retired, he enjoys working in his home studio, creating works of art that represent Ukraine.
